Simp poem

Others will linger on phrases like “wine-dark sea,”

But you seek out lands that seem like visions in dreams,

They hunch over manuscripts with their pages unfurled,

But what good are scholars if they fear the world?

Fasting and prayer may help one think,

But is it so wrong to long for jewels and silk?

I met you on the edge of the world where the sun goes to sleep,

never having known an ocean or an admiration so deep,

In all of your wanderings I can’t help but wonder,

Have you ever known loneliness?

You may go on thinking of Venice and Shangdu,

But I would not dream of paradise if I had you
